For 34 years, sanitation worker Nelson Molina pulled objects off his East Harlem truck route before they hit the compactor, 55,000 of them: lamps, mannequins, an antique clock fixed with tools also fished from the trash, a Star of David welded from Ground Zero steel [103]. He built them into a second-floor gallery inside the Sanitation garage on East 99th Street and called himself an "accidental curator." The gallery closed when the pandemic hit in 2020 and hasn't reopened over structural concerns, so the museum of everything New York threw away sits behind a locked door with no landmark status and no moving date [103].
