Preliminary tests found Legionella in 10 of the 24 cooling towers the city sampled around Melrose and Morrisania, one of them at Yankee Stadium, as the cluster reached nine cases and one death.

The Health Department ordered all 10 towers drained, cleaned and disinfected by Monday, including the ones at 1 E. 161st St. (Yankee Stadium) and 234 E. 149th St. (Lincoln Hospital) [25]. The PCR test finds bacterial DNA but cannot tell live bacteria from dead, so it does not prove any tower caused the outbreak; culture results can take up to two weeks [28]. Cooling towers cool a building's air conditioning by releasing water mist, which is how Legionella reaches people's lungs [25]. Health officials say it is safe to shower, drink tap water and run air conditioners in ZIP codes 10451 and 10456 [27].
“In essence, the air inside the building is not different from anywhere else in the neighborhood,”
“In the most recent monthly testing on Aug. 20, which was provided to the Department of Health, results were negative for Legionella bacteria.”

The Giants converted 9 of 11 third downs and outgained the Cowboys by 150 yards, their first season-opening win at MetLife Stadium since 2010.

Jaxson Dart ran the offense under a new, run-first plan, and the Giants held the ball for 36:40 to Dallas's 23:20 [42]. Malik Nabers played his first game since tearing his ACL in Week 4 last season [45]. Tight end Isaiah Likely caught all eight of his targets for 78 yards and both of his touchdowns [42].

The Community Opportunity to Purchase Act, vetoed by Eric Adams on his last day in office, now has the backing of the mayor and the Council speaker's promise of a vote.

COPA would give qualified buyers, meaning vetted preservation groups or nonprofits like community land trusts, 20 days to claim interest when an eligible building goes up for sale, then 70 more days to make an offer before it hits the open market, plus a chance to match private bids [10]. The revised bill exempts some smaller properties and targets buildings near the end of affordability protections or carrying enough code violations [10]. An override of Adams's veto fell one vote short early this year, sponsor Sandy Nurse said [10].
“Why can't we stay in our old community and fix it up and remain there?”
“They are setting us up for failure,”

More than 8,600 runners took over Fifth Avenue on Sunday for the 45th New Balance 5th Avenue Mile, where 15 Olympians shared the course with kids in a Back to School Mile, heats for NYPD and FDNY members, and more than 100 theater professionals running the Broadway Mile for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS [85]. Reekie won her third title in an event-record 4:13.8, and New Jersey native Langon took the men's race in 3:45.0, the second-fastest time in its history [85].
