The MTA canceled three December weekend G shutdowns after finishing Newtown Creek tunnel repairs early, so Greenpoint's only subway runs through the holidays.
The shutdowns were added after crews found the Sandy-damaged tube between Greenpoint and Long Island City needed far more work than planned. [82] Shop Small Greenpoint surveyed merchants on past shutdown weekends, and a coalition of owners and elected officials pushed the MTA to move the dates. [82] Weekend interruptions for the signal upgrade, which the MTA says will bring faster, more reliable trains, remain on the October calendar. [82]
