Mount Sinai's deal with the Justice Department
Mount Sinai Health System agreed to stop providing gender-affirming care to minors, pay a penalty and put $2 million toward free care for former patients, settling a Justice Department investigation that had subpoenaed six years of minors' health data. The deal follows Mount Sinai quietly halting puberty blockers and hormone therapy for trans and gender-nonconforming children earlier this year, and raises the question of whether NYU Langone, also subpoenaed, will strike a similar deal.

Mount Sinai Health System settled a Justice Department investigation by agreeing to stop providing gender-affirming care to minors, pay a monetary penalty and commit $2 million to free medical services for former patients, after the administration had subpoenaed six years of minors' health data from Mount Sinai and NYU Langone. Attorney General Letitia James' office said it is reviewing the settlement, and this week James and other state attorneys general separately sued the administration over a rule cutting federal Medicaid money for the same care.
