Starting Tuesday, a car clocked more than 10 mph over the limit in a work zone on any of the MTA's nine bridges and tunnels gets a mailed fine starting at $50.
The warning period is over: from Sept. 22, owners of cars recorded speeding through active construction zones get fines, each validated by a certified technician first [23]. The cameras cover the Verrazzano, the Throgs Neck, the RFK, the Whitestone, the Queens Midtown and Hugh L. Carey tunnels and three more crossings, and unmarked radar vehicles may sit at active work zones during work hours [23]. The tickets are non-moving violations, so they add no points and stay off driving records [23].

Amazin' AvenueThe Dragon Coaster at Rye Playland, the 97-year-old wooden ride from "Big," caught fire Saturday night in what officials believe was an electrical fire, months after a winter renovation that had locals panicking over dragon parts in a dumpster [30]. Nobody was hurt, Rye firefighters had it under control in about 15 minutes, and the park was already closed for the season [31]. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins made a promise: "Rest assured: this Dragon will rise again for Playland's 99th season." [30]
